Monitor VDA machines agentless with SCOM

Every Citrix engineer knows it could be quite a burden to install, configure and update monitoring agent software on Citrix VDA machines, especially for the non-persistent machines when you are required to create and deploy new master images with every agent version update.

While it requires some manual actions, the SCOM platform does natively support monitoring through agentless managed devices which you can onboard with the SCOM discovery wizard. This will save you a lot of maintenance time and reduces overhead on VDA machines, which is quite crucial.

Although this is a good option for smaller environments, it is definitely not for the larger ones as the maximum amount of agentless managed devices onboarded via the SCOM discovery wizard is very limited: 60 machines for a single SCOM Management Group only.

GripMatix Agentless VDA Machine Monitoring

MetrixInsight for Citrix VAD/DaaS includes an efficient agentless SCOM resource pool based solution which automatically detects all your single- and multi session VDA machines to securely start monitoring its compute, storage, network, services and user sessions remotely using the Windows Remote Management (WinRM) protocol.

This way you do not have to maintain a list of agent, or agentless managed computer objects in SCOM for your VDA machines and create new VDA master images every time a new agent version has been released, as there is no agent to update.

But most importantly, there is no limitation on the amount of VDA machines that you want to have detected and monitored, as you can scale up the automatically created resource pools by adding pool members accordingly. Therefore, the solution is able to automatically and dynamically detect, monitor and manage 10,000s of VDA machines.

Besides monitoring essential machine and user session metrics on compute, storage, network and VDA services, it also enables you to fix certain issues with the click of a button. For example, it includes tasks to start multiple stopped VDA services, or reboot VDA machines, at once.

Imagine the Citrix HDX Teams Redirection Service on a VDA single session machine has stopped running and cannot be started by the system automatically for some reason. Users having a virtual desktop session to the respective VDA machine have degraded user experience using MS Teams. This need to be fixed as soon as possible.

MetrixInsight for Citrix VAD/DaaS ensures that, among others, these types of problems are immediately detected and solved as it aims to optimize your business availability and performance to the limits.
